The story about kauri wood
Kauri (Agathis Australis) is a coniferous tree, that you will only see in the subtropical climate of New Zealand. The first copies from the Jurassic period, about 190/135 million years ago.
Compared to the cubic meter of the tribe are the Kauris the largest trees in the world. They are even more than 70 meters high and can reach a diameter of 9 meter. The Government of New Zealand has these trees under protection, the felling of these trees is strictly prohibited today.
At the end of the last ice age, for about 50.000 years ago, unexplained natural events have precipitated entire kauri forest and covered them with water and mud. The special properties of this sludge and the complete lack of oxygen have enabled it to counteract the processes of chemical decomposition and petrification, and also to keep the tree trunks intact until today. Today, these trunks are dug up, cut into slab and processed by Riva1920 into beautiful furniture pieces.
